More than 4,800 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students at the University of Iowa recently participated in graduation ceremonies. The UI's spring 2019 graduates had an average cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.16 on a 4.0 scale. In addition, 16 percent of the graduating class graduated with multiple majors and 355 undergraduates graduated with honors. Graduating Iowa State University students seeking teacher licensure were corded at a ceremony on Friday, May 10, in C.Y. Stephen's Auditorium. As part of the celebration, each student received honors cords that were placed around their shoulders by the influential mentor of their choice.

Seventy-three Iowa State students were initiated into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society during an award ceremony on May 5, 2019. This prestigious honor society, founded in 1776, recognizes the top liberal arts and sciences students.

50 Central College students were inducted into the college's chapter of The National Society of Leadership and Success during an April ceremony.

Iowa State University students competed for prizes for their business proposals, pitches, and consulting project recommendations for existing businesses at the 2019 Entrepreneurship Showcase, May 3 in LeBaron Hall on the ISU campus in Ames.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln conferred 3,490 degrees during commencement exercises May 3 and 4. The spring graduating class was the largest in the university's 150-year history.

ISU Theatre's "Iowa Odyssey (or How We Got to Here)," a unique, locally sourced theatre collaboration about identity, community and hope, opens Friday, April 26 at Fisher Theater. Using a pastiche of narratives and new and old storytelling techniques, "Iowa Odyssey" shares real-life stories that resulted from months of local research. The production's student advance team interviewed Ames community members and ISU students, faculty and staff about their experiences of culture, identity and immigration. The team also conducted archival research on the history of immigration in Iowa.

Iowa State University students collaborate to perform a full-scale opera at Fisher Theatre. In a retelling of the classic myth, "Orpheus in the Underworld" follows Orpheus as he travels from the pastoral loveliness of earth through the dizzying frivolity of Olympus to the decadent hedonism of Hades.

This semester, six Buena Vista University (BVU) students are working with a Storm Lake High School (SLHS) advanced ecology class to analyze microplastics in marine environments such as Storm Lake.

BVU had more than 45 students participating summer internship programs across the country.
